About Us

Intarsia: Mosaic of WoodMount Zion United Methodist Church is an active church in the Waynesville District of the Western North Carolina Conference. We are part of a two-point charge with Fincher’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

The membership of Mount Zion United Methodist Church is 79 with an average attendance of 35 in worship and 20 in Sunday School.

We share our faith through actions that exemplify Christ's love and invite others to experience the presence of God. Mount Zion has remained vital in the Upper Crabtree Community and symbolizes the Christian faith to the people of the area. Each Sunday the bell in the steeple of the church is rung to signal the beginning of the Worship Service.

Mount Zion United Methodist Church offers several volunteer opportunities for service. Perhaps you would like to teach a Bible Study or Sunday School class, read scripture in worship, assist with meal preparation for The Community Kitchen, serve as a greeter, or help with the DVD ministry to homebound members. There is something for everyone!

Mount Zion enjoys hosting worship in its sanctuary, Sunday School classes in the Classroom Addition and Fellowship Dinners in the Fellowship Hall. Picnic dinners and family reunions are held often during the summer in the Picnic Shelter.

Mount Zion is a forward looking congregation that has working solar panels that assist in the heating of the Fellowship Hall.

Our Beliefs

Visit the United Methodist Church web site for more information about our denomination.

How do I become a Member?

One becomes a member either by profession of faith in Jesus Christ or by transfer of membership from another congregation.

Baptism is “an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.” Baptism is a rite of initiation into the Christian church. We believe baptism is a means of claiming God’s grace for one’s life. We recognize baptisms done at any age and by any Christian church. We accept sprinkling, pouring or immersion as appropriate methods of baptism. If you have not been baptized, we would be honored to speak with you about your baptism.

Profession of faith is the act of saying, in essence, “I want to be a follower of Jesus.” Sometimes this is called confirmation, being saved or receiving new life or new birth. If you have not made a profession of faith, we would be happy to arrange for this to be done.

We recognize professions of faith made in other Christian churches. If you are relocating from another United Methodist Church, we simply welcome you and notify your former congregation that you are transferring your membership. If you are relocating from another Christian denomination, we recognize your baptism and profession of faith and ask only one further question: “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?”

Our pastor is happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have.
